pretty much nailed it IMHO. I think this is one of those more or less instinctual things that in general is quite true. Much of that list contains things men generally don't do, yet may be good advice for a woman on her own. Yet I think for all the talk of equality, there are instinctual differences between the male and female mindsets. By instinctual I mean that men from the earliest stages of their lives, learn that it's a rough and tumble world out there and they can't expect someone to jump in and save them. From the schoolyard bully in preschool to the boss at work, men (generally speaking) unconsciously realize that there is very little outside their own resources to keep them out of harm's way. So we consciously and unconsciously protect themselves by many means, much of which you could likely label 'street smarts' that we learn by trial and error along the way. Danger is everywhere for both men and women ... but I think men deal with it less dramatically, because we discover quickly what and where and when we can do this or that. Otherwise, we don't survive, a basic human instinct.
Decent men ... and I qualify that as decent ... are taught to be strong and self reliant. We are also taught that women and girls have much greater value in society itself than ourselves and it is our duty to protect and defend them. Sometimes we perform that role well, other times we fail, but that's another story. Yet now, as more women strike out on their own, it's my opinion that many have been sheltered by society and need to hone skills that come more naturally to men. So lists such as this may be useful. Who knows. I think it boils down to who we are and how we got to where we are. Such lists are a bit amusing, but as with all things funny, there is often an element of truth behind the joke.
Hope I didn't come off as too chauvinistic ... but to me, there are real differences between the sexes that are formed by a million years of evolution, and not easily shaken in a generation or two.
I don't think you came off as chauvinistic at all. Everyone so far has made some really good points.
