I grew up in a rural ranching/farming area and for most of my childhood we had a big owl neighbor who would great us with slow flybys and occasionally hangout on an oak near us at dawn.

Do you still feel something mysterious about them?

Not really, maybe the novelty of having an owl swoop past wore off. They are smart apex predators that can learn that certain people are not threats to them. Where I live now I like the ravens more, far more playful and communicative.
