Then it's a mighty strange coincidence.
In any case, we burned the hive and any gear from the infected apiary.
We're starting a fresh colony from a clean nuc next year.
damn, you burnt your dead out equipment because your hive succumbed to varroa mites?
lol. okay. total waste. but you do you.
you only burn equipment that's been affected by foulbrood.
Well we can't all have your supergenius levels of knowing exactly what to do in every circumstance, obviously.
yeah it's not like we all have access to this same internet you could use to query results instantly about any topic.
varroa can't survive without bees so if you don't have bees, you don't have varroa.
also is a thing called "mite bombing" you may wanna be aware of. essentially when a hive dies to varroa, all of the bees don't just instantly die with it. a lot of survivors will take any resources that they can and go beg their way into neighboring hives. problem is, these bees obviously had such a bad mite problem that it led to their hives collapse...
so you can have perfectly okay mite counts one day and then completely off the charts counts in a matter of days. your hive may very well have been "mite bombed."
