Using child porn to entrap those the FBI doesn't like was first tried roughly 15 years ago, give or take a year. As far as I know, the first victim of this tactic was a guy called July4Patriot on YouTube. This was back during the early days of Ron Paul's Lovelution. Libertarians caught on quick however and the more prominent ones started having their emails screened. The FBI tried to hit Luke Rudowski next, but his team caught the email before it was opened. The FBI dropped the tactic shortly thereafter, but I wouldn't be surprised if they brought it back. How many people would still remember that?

I don't believe them. Despite wanting to see a journalist go down, the premise of him having classified documents is enough for glowies to child-porn him. Though @AOU feel free to delete this if it's too soft on pedophilia. But I don't think this is that.

e; However if we come to find he tweeted about this type of degeneracy in the past, as happens often when journalists from places like vox, gizmodo, etc. are taken down then I'm wrong. Until then though this is too suspicious.
