On May 16, 2017, Dakota Rex was visiting a friend's house when he was caught up in a home invasion. Marquise White, Kairee Cooks, and Dairon Brown broke in and robbed everyone inside, then fatally shot 22-year-old Dakota in the chest on their way out.
