On May 15, 2021, Cash Gernon was abducted and killed. Darriynn Brown crept into the bedroom where 4-year-old Cash and his twin brother were sleeping and carried the boy off. Later that morning, a passerby spotted Cash's body in the street several blocks away: "At first I thought what I saw was a dog, but as I got closer I started noticing things, like a hand... I saw ants crawling all over his bare feet and he had blood over his face. He had no shoes, no socks, no shirt, none of that. He was only wearing a pair of bottoms."
Once he had stabbed Cash to death, Darriynn returned to the boys' bedroom and attempted to take away the other twin. The teenage killer had been watching the house for weeks, while neighbors say they had been reporting Darriynn's suspicious behavior to the police without any response. "We called a month ago, and now a child's dead."
