On May 9, 2019, Thomas Wayne Hartman was killed at work. Thomas was managing a furniture store when he got into an argument with Timothy Saunders, a delivery driver and former police officer. According to his mother, Thomas "would throw up his hands and walk away from a confrontation. He did not like violence. He had an altercation with [Timothy] before. Sometimes [Timothy] would show up early and wanted him to unload. He made a racial slur at my son."
In the middle of the argument, Timothy walked out, returned with a handgun, and shot Thomas in the face. Then he climbed back into his truck and drove away. Thomas, a 41-year-old single father, left behind four children and two grandchildren.
