On March 4, 2012, Judi Simpson-Beaver was killed by a customer. Jeremy Blue and Donvell Edwards had planned out a robbery of the convenience store where Judi worked. Jeremy went in, alone but armed, and demanded the contents of the cash register. Although he was disguised with a hockey mask, Judi recognized the young man; as he was leaving with the money, she said "Jeremy, why are you doing this?" In response, Jeremy shot the 48-year-old in the chest, then came around the counter and shot her in the face. Despite eliminating the only witness inside the store, Jeremy was arrested soon enough, after several other people easily recognized him outside and on the surveillance footage. Judi left behind two sons and a grandchild.
