On February 18, 2017, Ashley Ann Fricke was killed in a parking lot. Brittany Wiggins had been involved in a verbal confrontation with some men when she got angry, drew a gun, and shot toward them. The bullet struck Ashley as the 25-year-old was sitting in a nearby car with her sister.
According to the sister, Ashley "was a great person. She loved her fiancé and all of us. She cared very much about everybody." Three months after the shooting, a judge cleared the murder charge against Brittany, who claimed she had only fired a warning shot in self-defense. But this decision was overruled and Brittany was eventually convicted of murder and firearms charges.
