On February 11, 2021, Charles Richard Bolf was killed by his daughter's boyfriend. According to Ricky's family, his daughter had called him for help because Alton Rhodes was abusive. Ricky showed up with two friends and briefly fought with Alton; as they were leaving, the lightly injured Alton retrieved a gun and shot at the three unarmed men. He struck Ricky in the face and neck, and also riddled the back of a vehicle in which the others were trying to flee.
When police arrived, Alton was yelling "That's right, I shot the asshole. Self defense!" He later told officers "This has been coming for a long time" and "Her father is a racist." He was arrested for murder, but a grand jury declined to indict him on that charge. In the end, Alton was sentenced to 5 years of probation.
