Two days in jail... wtf.
On February 6, 2022, Carol Easterling Wright was swept off a drawbridge. Carol had been walking her bike across the bridge when its operator, Artissua Paulk, began opening the structure without warning. Although Carol desperately clung to a handrail, and a passing skateboarder attempted to rescue her, the 79-year-old fell onto a concrete surface dozens of feet below and died of her injuries.
Artissua claimed that she had followed all of the safety procedures for raising the drawbridge, such as monitoring the traffic cameras and walking out onto the balcony of the control tower multiple times to check for pedestrians, but surveillance footage and text messages proved that this was a deliberate lie. Artissua was sentenced to 2 days in jail and 5 to 8 years of probation.
