On January 24, 2017, Michael Genovese and Carl Clark were shot to death at work. A few months earlier, Ricky Dennis had claimed to be injured in a fall at the company offices where Michael was his employer. Ricky asked for compensation, but Michael and others believed he had staged the fall. According to a witness, Ricky had been a "lazy" employee who resented Michael and promised to "fuck him up." On the day before the killings, Ricky told another witness that he planned to go and visit Michael. Based on these testimonies, along with video surveillance and DNA and fingerprint evidence, Ricky was found guilty of the two murders. However, the conviction was later overturned because the judge had accidentally omitted a word while reading a jury note out loud during the trial. A retrial is underway.
