On January 21, 2015, Vann Lee Yates was killed in his back yard. Vann was working on his lawn when two men approached, pretending to be interested in buying a lawnmower. They attempted to rob the 57-year-old, but ended up shooting him in the chest and driving away. Although sketches of Vann's killers were released to the public, they have not been apprehended.
