On January 20, 2015, Aubrey Sue Clark was riding her bicycle home from school when she was fatally struck by a car. Lastevie Howard, a life-long felon, was impatient with slow traffic; trying to drive around the congestion, he jumped a curb and struck 10-year-old Aubrey with such force that she flew dozens of feet through the air and suffered severe brain damage. Lastevie was sentenced to seven years for the incident, and for fleeing the scene.
