On January 19, 2016, Curtis Rudd and his wife were in bed when they heard a commotion at their front door in the middle of the night. Curtis grabbed a handgun and went to investigate, finding masked young men standing in his dining room. In his confrontation with Robert Wiggins, Khaleef Marshall, and Davonte Mike, the 85-year-old wounded one of the intruders, but was hit with multiple shots and died in his wife's arms.
