On January 18, 2021, Brandon Michael Stalker was shot by an arsonist. Christopher Harris had spray-painted "Jesus is black" on a local cathedral, doused its large wooden entry doors with a flammable liquid, and set them on fire, causing thousands of dollars in damage. When Christopher was located, he took shelter in a home and engaged in a two-hour standoff with Brandon and other police officers; when he finally exited, Christopher sprayed the area with gunfire. One of his shots struck Brandon in the head, killing the 24-year-old. Brandon left behind his fiancée, a seven-year-old daughter, and a three-month-old son.
