On January 3, 2021, Mark Allen McWilliams was killed in his church. Mytrez Woolen had been fleeing police pursuit after a drive-by shooting when he broke into the church, where Mark was a pastor. Mark and his wife discovered Mytrez hiding in a bathroom with a bag of church funds. When Mark asked the young man to leave, Mytrez rushed at him, took away the 62-year-old's handgun, and shot him in the chest several times. Then he shot at Mark's wife and demanded a nearby churchgoer's car keys. Finally, Mytrez shot another man on his way out of the building.
