On January 1, 2005, Amanda Raechel Maynard was killed by a neighbor. Kenneth O'Neal had left a nearby party and entered Amanda's home with a knife. Her mother was out of town that night and her father was a soldier stationed abroad. Amanda screamed when she saw Kenneth, so he ran to her and stabbed the 15-year-old in the head. Then he raped her before returning to the party, where he washed her blood off. After enjoying some time with his friends, Kenneth went home and told his mother to call 911 because he had heard a girl screaming.
