On December 24, 1968, Pamela Kay Powers went missing. Pamela and her parents had been watching her older brother compete in a sports tournament that day; when Pamela went to a restroom to wash her hands before getting some dinner, a young man named Robert Williams kidnapped and sexually assaulted the 10-year-old. Robert was seen carrying the girl out of the building, concealed in a blanket, and he later showed the authorities where he had left her body.

Robert spent the rest of his long and healthy life in prison, passing much of the time with repeated appeals, a retrial, and other legal proceedings, including two hearings before the Supreme Court.
