On December 19, 2017, Danette Ann Kane was shot by a stranger. For unclear reasons, Anne Carpenter came to an apartment building owned by Danette, where Anne's father was a renter, and attacked the building's manager. According to the manager, "it's been said maybe I didn't like her father and was going to evict him. That was not true." Anne shot him in the neck and then, as he lay on the ground, she shot him in the head. When Danette came outside to investigate, Anne shot her three times. The manager survived his injuries but was blinded for life; Danette died at the scene.
