On December 17, 1992, Kristin Gale Huggins was on her way to her first real job. She had recently graduated art school and had been hired to paint a public mural; however, Kristin never returned home. Ambrose Harris and Gloria Dunn abducted her because they wanted her car.

According to court records, "Dunn complained about the fact that it was raining that morning, so [Harris] said he would 'carjack' someone to avoid walking in the rain. Dunn then asked what [Harris] would do with the person he carjacked and, in response, [he] said he would tie up and abandon a black victim, but would kill a white victim."

They forced the 22-year-old into her own trunk and drove her to a wooded area, where Ambrose raped her, shot her in the face, and buried her.
