On December 2, 2021, Davide Giri was stabbed to death in a park. Vincent Pinkney approached Davide from behind and plunged a boning knife into his stomach, puncturing a vital blood vessel near his heart. The 30-year-old graduate student stumbled away, trying to find help, but soon collapsed. Vincent proceeded to stab another man multiple times, then tried to stab a third, who alerted the authorities and helped them to locate the attacker. Vincent has also been linked to an incident on the day before Davide's killing, in which a man was suddenly stabbed in the neck. According to a member of the police, "It's entirely random and unprovoked. There's no conversation, there's no anything. It's the scariest type of crime because it could be anybody." But the father of one of the survivors, speaking in Italian, reported that after hearing from investigators, he believes Vincent is "a fanatic racist who hates whites. My son has all the characteristics to be the target of someone like this, light skin and hair."
