On November 18, 2016, Patrick Thomas Carothers was killed by a fugitive. Pat and other officers tracked Dontrell Carter to a mobile home where he was being harbored by Levy Jenkins, Ashley Roberts, and Jeremy Lewis. Dontrell opened fire on Pat's team, hitting him twice and being shot to death in return. According to a spokesman for Pat's agency, Dontrell "was extremely dangerous, wanted for trying to kill law enforcement officers and deliberately evading authorities. Pat is a hero and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and five children."
