On November 13, 2015, Travis James Hiatt was killed by his daughter's boyfriend. She had given birth to Gawain Wilson's twin daughters five months earlier, but decided to end the relationship with Gawain because of his anger issues and infidelity. Travis brought a truck to help his daughter move, but when Gawain found out, he attacked them with an AR-15. He shot Travis several times and sprayed Travis's daughter with gunfire, killing the two infants as she held them in her arms. After Gawain ended his own life, Travis's daughter crawled to her father to hear his final words. He told her this wasn't her fault and asked her to give his love to her brother.
