On November 3, 2015, Jeremy David Mardis was shot to death by city marshals. The 6-year-old was riding in his father's vehicle when a patrol car began to pursue them. Jeremy's father was afraid to stop for the marshals because he had a prior personal conflict with one of them. When he did pull over, he put his hands up, but officers Derrick Stafford and Norris Greenhouse fired 18 times into the vehicle, hitting Jeremy in the leg, arm, chest, neck, and face.
