On October 21, 2012, Cary Lynn Robuck and Maelyn Melissa Lind were killed at work. Radcliffe Haughton illegally purchased a gun and brought it to the spa where Maelyn and Cary were beauticians; his main goal was to kill his estranged wife, but he also expected to take down some of her coworkers, having fantasized about "sitting on a hill and picking them off one by one." He walked into the business, forced his wife and everyone else to lie on the floor, then began shooting them. Radcliffe's first victim, an employee who was seven months pregnant, suffered a nonfatal neck wound. Next he shot 35-year-old Cary, who left behind a teenage daughter. Maelyn tried to reason with Radcliffe, placing herself between him and a younger woman, so he shot the 38-year-old grandmother in the head and chest. After wounding three other women, he killed his wife, locked an exit door, set a fire inside the building, and took his own life.
