On October 9, 2015, Michael Joseph Nolan died. At 23 years old, and recently drafted onto a Major League Baseball team, Mike had been standing with some friends in a restaurant parking lot when Nashaun Hunter opened fire at them from a car driven by Garth Cole. The teenager's shots hit Mike in the head and arm.
The defendants claimed that the drive-by shooting was only meant to be a warning, in response to an earlier altercation. Upon being sentenced to 25 years in prison, Nashaun had a last message for Mike's parents: "The only thing I have to say is that their son was not innocent."
