On October 2, 2012, Helen Teague Wells and Gary Gettys Wells were murdered in their home. The couple had recently fired their housekeeper, Shirley Rogers, after she repeatedly used their credit card without permission. Shirley's boyfriend Jonathan Rhodes was found guilty of stabbing each of her former employers dozens of times, as well as shooting Helen in the face. Attorneys for Jonathan's defense and prosecution both also believed that Shirley played an active role in the murders, but due to lack of evidence, she served only 2½ years in prison for stealing from the couple.
