On September 7, 2020, Ethan Scott Powell was killed by another teenager. After getting into some kind of argument with Ethan, 15-year-old Kemond Jones — whom a neighbor described as "very respectful" and "just an all-around nice guy" — shot the other teen eight times in the early morning. Kemond claimed he was acting in self-defense, although four of his shots were fired into Ethan's back.
