A father of two little girls, Gerard was returning to his home when teenage brothers Maurice and Marvin Roberts held him up at gunpoint. He surrendered his wallet, but hesitated in giving up his car keys, because his 2-year-old daughter Violet was still in the vehicle. So Marvin shot him twice in the head.
