On August 25, 2018, Megan Elizabeth Staats and Jeremy Lee Apperson were killed at a gas station. Robert Jackson arrived at the station and pointed a gun at a car full of people, demanding money. When they drove away, he walked up to the cash register where Megan was working, pointed the gun at her, and said "This is a robbery. Open the drawer." After she complied and he emptied the cash drawer, Robert ordered Megan to lie down on the floor and then shot the 27-year-old mother in the back. Back outside, Robert approached Jeremy's car while he was pumping gas, pointing the gun at his wife. Though Jeremy's two daughters were at a birthday party, his son was in the back seat. When Jeremy tried to protect his wife and son, Robert shot him and walked away to continue his crime spree.
