On August 20, 2020, Charles "Chip" Woodfin Case was killed while posting a sign. As a code enforcement officer, Chip was sent to place a "condemned" notice at the home of Smitty Melton, a routine task that wasn't expected to be dangerous. When Chip finished the job and returned to his work truck, Smitty came up from behind the vehicle and opened fire on the 41-year-old. Chip left behind two daughters and two sons.
