On August 18, 2015, Carl Henry Starke was leaving the store when he was followed home by two teenagers. The 16- and 17-year-old car thieves Christopher O'Neal and Kevin Williams were looking for a new victim and decided to target Carl, who had autism. In the end, the boys shot Carl in the chest outside his home and left without his car.
