On August 12, 2013, David Shawn Santucci was walking home from a birthday party when a car with three occupants stopped near him. One of them got out and shot David from several feet away, then drove off with the others without taking anything from the dying 27-year-old nurse. When the names of the attackers (Mario Patterson, Dondre Johnson, and Jerrica Norfleet) were released to the public, David's family began searching for answers. They found Mario's social media profile, which was full of images of Trayvon Martin, whose killer had been acquitted a month before David was murdered. However, this was never officially considered as a possible motive in the case.
