On July 30, 2018, Richard Gary Black was killed while defending his family. A naked man named Dajon Harper kicked down Gary's door and grabbed his 11-year-old grandson. Dajon was biting and strangling the boy and trying to drown him in a bathroom when Gary shot him twice in the chest. Meanwhile, police officers arriving on the scene heard gunshots from within the home and saw Gary inside. Without identifying themselves, they began screaming commands at him; noticing the commotion outside, Gary pointed a lit flashlight toward the officers, so one of them fired three shots into the 73-year-old, and then a fourth after he had fallen. No charges were brought against the officer who killed Gary.
