On July 15, 2017, Justine Maia Damond was killed for calling 911. She had decided to contact the authorities after hearing some disturbing sounds near her home that she suspected might be a sexual assault in progress. When Mohamed Noor and another officer arrived in their police vehicle, Justine came outside, barefoot and in pajamas. Reaching across his partner's side of the car, Mohamed shot the 40-year-old in the abdomen.

Justine had been working on plans for her impending wedding when she made the 911 call. Then she spoke with her fiancé on the phone until the police arrived. "I have played this over in my head, over and over. Why didn’t I stay on the phone with her?" He recounted, "When she said 'The police are here,' I felt like all is well, like the knights in shining armor have arrived. I'll never feel that way again."

Mohamed served three years for killing Justine.
