On June 6, 2017, Kera Laneigh Teel and Kyndal Jae Teel were killed outside their home. Corey Spencer, Johnny Phifer, and Dustin Bernard attempted to carjack Kera as she arrived in her apartment's parking lot, but ended up shooting the young pregnant woman and fleeing. It is believed that 14-year-old Corey was the gunman, although he claimed to have been at the scene of a different shooting at the time. At the hospital, Kera's second daughter Kyndal was delivered eight weeks early but did not survive.
