According to public prosecution spokesperson Lisa De Wilde and railway network operator Infrabel, a full forensic investigation is underway to determine the cause of the tragedy. Early evidence reveals the following details:

Active Warnings: Security cameras and initial tracking confirm that the crossing's security barriers were closed and the red warning lights were fully functional and flashing when the collision occurred.

Vehicle Movement: Federal police reports indicate the minibus was traveling down a street parallel to the tracks before turning left directly onto the level crossing despite the lowered barrier.
