Basically the title. I have commercial automatic sprayers tastefully hung, but I’m not happy with them. The cans of air freshener don’t have lasting scent and turning them up to max kills the cans and 2xC batteries quickly. I do find them useful for killing mosquitoes in the garage when I put the insecticide cans ….but I digress. This is about air freshener.

These no-shake febreze air fresheners smell good and the scent lasts for a while. It’s probably full of goy-poison, but let’s ignore that for a minute.

How could I put something small and battery-powered on this to pull the trigger at like a 20 minute time interval?

Jb weld a wooden rod to the front of an oscillating fan, get one of these outlet timers (homedepot.com) and set it to run for a minute or so every ten minutes. Duct tape febreeze to a counter and place in line with the wooden rod.

I like how that would automate the can spraying, but I’m not trying to junk up the place with that setup. lol. But it has me thinking. And I already have a timer like you described.

A servo motor controlled by an ATiny would do the trick.

I misspelled it. It's ATtiny micro-controller. It's a very cheap, yet capable micro-controller that will allow you to control a servo motor or practically anything.

This is interesting. I wonder if it has enough “throw” to pull the trigger using a tight string. And how long would the battery last? But this is what I’m imagining could be a good solution. Something like it at least.

If I put one of these on the back and had a string going around the trigger and onto the arm, it seems like it could pull the string and fire the spray. But how do you power and control one of these things? What do I need to tell it to go once every 20 minutes?

Muscle wire with a timed duration of periodic current

Wife had to wear a contraption about half the size of a pack of cigarettes that would inject a medication at a certain rate over a span of hours. I disassembled when it was completed. Neat contraption. A hypodermic syringe inside of a rotating tubular sleeve. Rotation squeezed the plunger by means of an internal screw-like bore. The sleeve had angled gear teeth around the perimeter of the base engaged by a piece of muscle wire. Periodic contract/relax cycles ratcheted the sleeve into a slow rotation. Interesting design.
