I remember NASA testing some stuff like this during the 1980s. Except their focus was on sonic tip velocities on turbo prop engines to allow larger props and higher performance. They helped a ton but also increased vibrations and damaged the engines. I expect there exists a fair amount of research they have been able to leverage.
