This happens to people every day in this country. Tech jobs are especially finicky and always have been in my experience. I’ve been laid off a bunch of times from jobs at digitally-based companies. I realized early in my career that it’s actually kind of normal, and so I stopped letting my identity be defined by my job.
During the lockdowns, many people lost their jobs, and the same thing happened with all the jab mandates. And yet, the media pretty much didn’t give a fuck for any of these people or decry their lives being upended unnecessarily.
But watch what happens here…I guarantee that the media will try to portray these ex Twitterati as some special cases who deserve everyone’s pity and support on a nationwide basis, rife with hyperbolic descriptions of homelessness and unfair misfortune…if only that same media would have given the same amount of fucks for the average person over the last two years.
My message to those laid off is simply “sorry you lost your job. Enjoy your vacation and then get back out there and find the next chapter in your life like literally everyone else has had to do at some point in their lives. You’re not any more special than the millions who lost their jobs and livelihoods over the last two years. Man up and don’t be a little bitch about it.”
