Nitter is consistently overloaded because morons don't respect the requests to not use it as your main instance. It's there as an example of the software working. That doesn't stop all these retards from using nitter.net links though. We are surrounded by people that think they are on the leading edge of change and subversion but a ton of poal users are just a bunch of dimwits copying/pasting base level memes without ever thinking a single layer deeper than the surface. There is a fantastic plugin available if you use a web browser based on Firefox or Chromium. It's called LibRedirect and will automatically rotate between alternate frontends for many services.
