He might still get residuals for screenings but those are contracts with cable stations now. So if the station keeps paying for screenings because it seems to get viewers, then he would get more residual checks.
They will end up doing what telegram did and split into two release versions. One read only version that complies with app store policies and a FOSS version you have to download directly from their website.

I stopped watching Trek with the latest series, which is so bad, I can't even look at it. Same with Dr. Who. The Star Wars series, strangely enough, are pretty good. I'm talking about the Mandalorian and Bobba Fett. I think the same guy wrote both of them.
