It works well, but depends on the type of PCB. Old tech can use cheap ones and don’t like too much heat (pancake phenomenon), which can result in traces, pads and vias getting ripped off.

It’s a good advice to first practice on donor boards and see what temps are appropriate.

He didn't emphasize that adding plenty of leaded solder (or even lower-melt allows) can lower the temperature needed to keep everything melted. But yeah, lifted traces are a big headache.
