Opened it up at the show, oh crap corrodeedoodle battery. But...you'll notice it's rusted, not corroded. It's a carbon-zinc cell, which saved the radio from death. Put a new battery in, works pretty good but certainly needs some new caps and a tuneup.

It's been a while since I've seen a carbon cell.

What are your plans for the radio?

Probably just keep it around as an oh-shit radio. Seems like even deaf as a post it's still a decent performer. Has two amplified IF stages so it should work fairly well once tuned.

I also picked up a hongdong special, it needs some love too but it's not going to be as good a performer, only 1 IF stage.

I have a Bell+Howell 9-band battery radio that I use during power outages, but the FM antenna broke off. I have a big old discone antenna that picks up 40m and cb that I use with my airspy but that's not much good during a power outage it turns out. I do also have a baofeng mobile that I monitor the local repeaters and walkie-talkie channels on.

I bought this really great all band radio for $3 at a goodwill, broken antenna- works a treat super reception even with broken antenna.

A long piece of wire jammed into the antenna hole will work just as well for FM.
