When I got a cheap-ass USB stick by the brand Medion in 2015 (64GB USB 3.0 for €15), I did not expect to store data for a long time on it.

But the Hama USB stick from 2015? I have already posted about where that went (vid8).

But a few things to add:

That cheap Medion USB stick not only has 100% data integrity after six years, but also is 140 MB/s fast! That crappy Hama, at around the same price, only had 30 MB/s at most (about a fifth!), and also, as already said, lost data within months.

Unbelievable.

The consensus that Hama flash storage is garbage is huge, with only one strange exception. And yet they sell it at similarities prices. That's called a scam.

Their other products appear fine. But their flash storage? They better check their supplier.

Medion makes good shit. It's a german company (used to be at least?). I'm not shocked at all. My medion PC and PDA were top of the line. The standard medion SD (8gb I think) that came with my old medion camera also still works.

I recently commented on how I wish I still had that PDA. There's nothing on the market since to rival how useful it was.

I don't trust any no-name storage, usb or SD. I've been burned too many times especially when it come to the SD's I've tried writing for Pi's.

Do you also know Maginon?

Also owned by ALDI; they make budget cameras. We have one from ~7 years ago, and it works just fine, although we use it infrequently these days. It has outstanding image quality up to ISO 200 (base ISO: 64), and acceptable at ISO 400, above which gaussian blur messes up.

Yeah, I have one that looks like a go-pro. I'm pretty sure at least 2 of the products I listed came from Aldi. Now all they have is laundry baskets and electric kettles, but they used to have quality electronics back in the day. Nothing like walking out of the broke-dick grocery with a computer.

My medion camera is long dead from a motorcycle crash, but the sd card lives on. The action cam however doesn't have the longest battery. The kids mostly abuse it nowadays.

This is why expandable storage is beneficial, also in mobile phones.

Companies selling random quality USB sticks at high end prices? Who has ever heard of such a thing? Shocked! Shocked I tell you!

€15 for 64 GB + USB3.0 was very cheap in 2015.

Sorry, I guess don't savvy Eurofag units. I will therefore amend my statement in light of this revelation.

Companies selling random quality USB sticks at regular prices? Who has ever heard of such a thing. Shocked! Shocked I tell you!

Happy now?
