In 2012, I tested a damaged data CD with MP3 files in a Samsung DVD-Video/Audio player. I can't remember the model number, but:

That device actually memorizes files that are unreadable once and marks them as unplayable, thus skips them when selected without even trying to read them.

This information is kept in memory even after ejection.

Maybe there was a way to reset it, but if not, that would be awful.
