I don't think you can say "Earth got lucky." It's like playing Russian Roulette with a revolver that holds 50 rounds. Your chances of not getting shot when you pull the trigger are pretty good. The path of revolution followed by the Earth is a big, big ellipse. At any given moment, is is very unlikely that the Earth will be in the path of an ejection from the Sun. Plus, a 50% chance it hits on the other side of the globe.
