And to chase the chain of custody for that machine.
I understand why the buyer checked on it before tearing into it. The persecution would be intense if they could pin a violation on him, apparently the guy wasn't willing to take that risk.

Yes, and the only way to find out was via a thorougher Forensic examination. It was a missed opportunity and now no-one will ever know being the point.
One key point I didnt get around to making. There was no chain of custody for the machine, so any program or data may be corrupted from post election activity. A twist to consider would be what if it was purposefully loaded with fake programs/data and sold as a DS trap for a forensic examiner to trip up on in an attempt to discredit the whole forensic effort. It seems suspicious to see a late model voting machine from MI conveniently pop up on eBay 2 months before the midterms.

These are the exact things a thorougher forensic analysis can discern. if data were planted, when it was planted and how it was planted. If security logs were tampered, altered or erased, Perf log changes, OS code manipulation, Data addition and alteration exactly when data was accessed and or tampered, as well as internet / wifi/ ethernet connection and router networking. Results of data analysis can also then be cross referenced with State Voter roll records, birth death registrations and DMV data and State published voter results and on night voter counts etc etc among other things.
But this scenario/ argument of missing Chain of Custody rendering results moot, is the same used by Democrats as a reason why Election ballots missing chain of custody don't actually show Election tampering bc there is no way to know when or if they were tampered with. Just ugh. There's no crime bc no one should believe their lying eyes.
