Colfax Township Clerk Becky Stoddard told the outlet that the machine is a VAT, or Voter Assist Terminal, which is used to mark ballots by handicapped voters.
“It is a tablet for handicapped voters. No election data is on it. It was never used by the public and I’m the only person who voted on it in six or seven years,” Stoddard said. “The MSP is investigating and I’m not sure what happened.”
So, I'm not sure what he could glean from any software or data that might be on the machine. On the other hand, you bet they would charge him with receiving stolen goods if he had dug into it, found anything detrimental to MI voting system and reported on it. He stayed within the boundaries of the law. He kind of did what Project Veritas did with Ashley Biden's diary to stay within the bounds of the law, which wasn't received as well ... but that's another story.
You trust what the Official's are saying about what is or isn't on a VAT. How do you know for sure. You don't. Burt good luck believing the crooks as they tell you 'Nothing to see here'.
He didn't do what Project Veritas did with Ashley Biden's diary either because they actually read the contents in it's entirety . That analogy would only work if PV handed over the diary without even reading it.
He could've thoroughly analyzed the VAT and released the results Anonymously after dumping the machine at the comic con.

PV read it to help verify authenticity before taking any action, they did not do a detailed report out on it. They called the FBI to retrieve it. THAT is the similarity I referred to, that neither reported out details contained within and instead called in Govt.

Which is what i'm directly referring to. My comment to that was in essence 'Why would one believe what they say with regard to what is on the VAT without an accurate forensic analysis to actually know for certain ??'

Edit : We are fairly certain they are committing crimes , but it's illegal to investigate their criminal activity .... even just to 'verify No election data is on it. It was never used by the public and I’m the only person who voted on it in six or seven years'.
